25 Tour Operators from Nairobi and a team from the Kenya Wildlife Service were today hosted in Tharaka Nithi County by the Tourism Ministry led by CECM Moreen Nyambura.
Led by the Senior Warden Meru National Park, the stakeholders were received at Ura Gate in Tharaka Nithi County, after a game drive in Meru National Park where they went on to tour the famous Kibuuka Falls in Tharaka.
To ensure the vibrancy of the tourism industry in the county, the various sectors agreed to partner with the County Government to see the promotion of various tourist destinations in the county.
Earlier in the week, Governor Muthomi Njuki while hosting delegations from Hungary and Austria noted that discussions were in place with the two governments to have mountaineering infrastructure in the county to ensure tourists climb and access Mt. Kenya through the Chogoria route.
In his inauguration speech for a second term, Njuki highlighted the need to revamp cultural facilities and festivals that had been long politicized in the county, promising to have the return of the annual Ura Gate Festival.
Njuki further noted that his government was committed to promoting Ura Gate as the preferred route for tourist access to Meru National Park, pledging the completion of Chiakariga-Marimanti road with a commitment to connect Gatunga with Ura Gate.
Last month, British entrepreneur and businessman Richard Branson climbed Mt. Kenya through Chogoria Route to raise education funds for the Big Change Charity.
