KOREA OFFERS BOOST FOR KENYAN COFFEE.

The ministry of industrialization is in talks with South Korea after there have been interest for orders of up to 10-11 tons of coffee from the Asian Nation.


Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Betty Maina says the feedback they received from an expo they attended in Korea is that they have a huge affinity for Kenyan coffee and there was an immediate interest for over 11 tons of coffee.


While the amount of coffee Kenya exports to Korea stands at 12%, the government is in talks with Korea to reduce or remove the 8% tax imposed on Kenyan coffee.


In the 2019/2020 coffee year, Kenya exported 46,333 metric tons of Green Bean Equivalent that earned Kshs 22billion.


Coffee is currently grown on approximately 120,000 hectares spread across 33 counties with Kiambu, Murang’a, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Nyeri, Kirinyaga and Embu being strongholds of the cash crop farming.
