Governor Muthomi Njuki has called out the government for what he termed as inequality and bias in issuance of Identification Cards to its citizens.
Speaking at the funeral of Ephantus Rugendo on Thursday at Ndagani, the Tharaka Nithi Governor pointed out that cards applied for in the last 3-4 months in Central and Upper Eastern regions were yet to be issued by the government unlike other regions where the exercise took shorter periods.
According to Njuki, there is a notion that issuance of ID cards to counties and regions not affiliated to government ideologies and politics would translate to votes that would benefit leaders opposed to the current regime, hence the delay.
“(To the government) …. we can see, we can feel and we understand what is happening. There is no way issuance of ID cards in a particular region can take lesser time than other regions which have to wait up to 4 months to be issued with the cards.” – Governor Muthomi Njuki
With less than 4 days left for the second phase of mass voter registration, Governor Njuki asked those already issued with ID’s to register as voters to participate in the coming general elections.
In matters health, the governor asked residents to come out in large numbers for COVID-19 vaccination, noting that the county government had made efforts to localize the vaccination drive to health centres and dispensaries closer to the people.
“Our county vaccination uptake is very low. On Friday last week, we were at 24%. This time we have set up vaccination drives at health centres and dispensaries which have clinic days for vaccination”- Governor Muthomi Njuki
