Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has warned leaders against inciting Kenyans to take the law into their own hands in solving injustices.
Speaking at MCK Marimanti Church in Tharaka Nithi county on Sunday 11th June 2023, Kindiki asked leaders eyeing elective seats in the next general election to find other ways of getting votes and seize from using security concerns as election agenda.
According to Kindiki, elected leaders especially from the county, were using the Meru-Tharaka Nithi border issues to incite locals against each other.
“Do not incite ordinary people who are in problems to hate their neighbors, take the law into their hands and commit crime. We have firm instructions from President William Ruto not to incite one community against the other in seeking justice”, he said.
The CS announced the deployment of Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) within a month in the county to curb banditry activities witnessed in the county mostly in Tharaka North.
Kindiki also hit out at opposition leaders in the country for aiding goons to attack people and destroy property asking those dissatisfied with the government agenda.
“We must train ourselves to submit our grievances using the right channels constitutionally. Those not satisfied with certain bills can seek justice in court through appeals. The opposition is free to use Parliament and the Judiciary to make their voices heard and not necessarily through demonstrations and mass protests”, he said.
The CS noted that every Kenyan had the right to peaceful demonstrations, calling on security organs not to use excessive force on demonstrators who violate the law.
“If we go on, we will burn this country, yet we have a lot of issues to solve including some with the help of the opposition. Let us use constitutional avenues to raise concerns”, he added.
