TNC EXECUTIVE DISMISS CLAIMS OF HQ'S TRANSFER TO CHUKA,SAY ALLEGATIONS ARE POLITICALLY INSTIGATED.

Tharaka Nithi County Executive has moved to defend its government over claims that the County Headquarters and its operations had been moved from Kathwana to Chuka Town.

On 23rd April 2022, the Kathwana Business Community is set to hold peaceful demonstrations at Kathwan, to protest against the transfer of county offices from Kathwana to Chuka by Governor Muthomi Njuki.

In a press briefing held at Kathwana on Thursday, the County Executive dismissed any statements purporting to mean the County Headquarters had been moved elsewhere, saying the allegations were malicious and politically instigated to discredit some politicians and give leeway for others to gain political mileage from misinformation.

“Such actions by a few individuals are divisive and meant to cause hate amongst county residents and fuel ethnic tension ahead of the August polls. We urge residents to remain peaceful and steadfast in fighting and declining any misinformation” – Dorothy Igoki Naivasha, CECM Finance, Economic Planning & Trade.

According to the committee, the gazettement of Kathwana as County Headquarters has neither been revoked nor changed by the County Assembly or Parliament as required by law and that there was no resolution by the County Assembly nor Parliament purporting to change Kathwana as Headquarters.

Kathwana which became a municipality by the virtue that it is the County Headquarters hosts the County Command Centre and all county services, with County Executive and Officers fully operating from the Headquarters.

The Governor’s Residence, Deputy Governor’s Residence, Speaker’s Residence and Municipality Offices are hosted within Kathwana, with expansion of County Executive Offices already in place to increase the number of staff to ensure smooth running of county operations.
