BCK Ntuntuni Primary School has received donations from Imbue Herfrica Organization and Waza Dada Initiative for their remarkable performance in KCPE 2022.
In an event held at the school on Friday, 27 January 2023, Imbue Herfrica in collaboration with Safaricom Foundation delivered 20 desks and chairs to the school and awarded the top 3 students in last year’s examination with shopping vouchers worth 6,000 each.
Speaking at the event, Imbue Herfrica CEO Stacey Kananu Mugambi noted there was need to invest in education and mentorship in the community, adding that the organization intended to work with other schools across the county and called on other organizations to invest in similar initiatives.
“Such initiatives might sound cliché, but we need to realize the children in our community are our future. We need to invest in these children through mentorship and education because such generations get lost because they lack mentorship”, she said.
According to the Project Manager Maureen Kawira Miriti, the organization was established with the goal of supporting the community through mentoring, training and offering equal educational opportunities and is committed to create conducive learning environment for students in the community.
The school also received a donation of sanitary towels from Waza Dada Initiative, after it was identified as a major challenge to the girls in a previous visit to the school.
According to Waza Dada Founder Brenda Tracy Miriti, girls in the school were now motivated to focus on education and confidently go about their daily routines without the worry of menstrual periods.
“By providing sanitary towels to the young girls we believe that this will help boost their confidence, motivate them to do better in school and help them carry out their day-to-day activities during their menstrual periods. It also helps to reduce the risks of infections which might have effects on fertility and maternal outcomes in the near future”, she said.
The top 6 students in KCPE 2022 were also awarded KShs 2,000 each by the school principal Mr Patrick Bundi and KShs 1000 each by the school sponsor Rev. Frank Mutembei.
“Today’s event has served as a motivation to other students to perform even better in their education. Girls suspending their studies due to lack of sanitary towels has been a major problem in the school and we are grateful for the donations today” – Patrick Bundi, School Principal.
A mentorship program was launched in the school by the two organizations.
