Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki on Monday 3 July 2023 officially handed over a three-acre piece of land in Chuka to the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) for the construction of a depot in the county.
Speaking during the hand over, Governor Njuki gave the County Government’s commitment to work with NCPB to see the completion of the project, saying it was an opportunity for the farmers in the county to benefit from NCPB services.
“As a government we are happy and pleased that the county was considered for the construction of a NCPB depot which will give us maximum agricultural farming services. We shall ensure accessible roads to the facility are constructed and the availability of a water point as part of supportive amenities for the stores”, he said.
NCPB Chairman Samwel Mbae Ragwa noted that the depot would be utilized for the good of the county in ensuring the farmer is appreciated and value for the crop.
“This is a plus for the county. Within the next two years, we shall have put up NCPB stores here where farmers can benefit from our services. We are keen to see farmers from this agricultural zone benefit”, he said.
Once complete, the depot is set to provide services such as Warehouse Receipt System and General Warehousing and Storage.
