Tharaka Nithi Woman Representative Susan Ngugi has revealed that she is delivering more projects with less funds compared to other elected leaders on the county who have more funds allocated to their kitty.
According to Ngugi, her office receives KShs 19.5 millionn for projects across the county, where KShs 3.8 Million is divided among the three constituencies for bursaries.
Comparing her allocation to her counterparts, Ngugi highlighted the substantial difference where constituency MPs receive up to KShs 145 million through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) where 35% goes towards bursaries.
In the new financial year, Ngugi disclosed that MPs are expected to receive KShs 175 million, where KShs 75 million will go towards bursaries.
"I have KShs 6.5 million for projects per constituency against an MP who has over KShs 145 million in their kitty for the same.
Who should I prioritize? Infact most of the times I go deep into my pockets", she said.
The legislator who spoke at Kiamuchii Primary School in Chuka Igambang’ombe constituency called for school heads to advocate that the sanitary pads kitty be allocated through the office of the Woman Representative, saying her office would be more effective.
Accordingn to Ngugi, last year KShs 400 million was budgeted for the acquisition and delivery of sanitary pads through the Ministry of Education where she noted challenges in distribution.
"We have tried to ask the government to have the Women Representatives responsible for that kitty but the Ministry has insisted that we shall only be accompanying them when they come to deliver", she added.
She reiterated that her office through the National Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) is committed to prioritize the marginalised persons across the county.
Ngugi awarded 25 students with secondary school bursaries and 2 others with full education scholarships.
She also delivered a water tank to Kiamuchii Primary School.
