Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has made his intentions clear on leaving behind a legacy after his term in office as governor expires in 2027.
Njuki who was elected into office in 2017 and is currently serving his second and final term as governor noted that his administration was committed to fulfilling all election promises made to the people in the round up to the 2022 general elections, adding that his top priority in the remaining four years of his term was the development agenda.
Addressing residents of Mariani Ward while commissioning a bridge on Friday 04 August 2023, Njuki pointed out that he was going to serve all people to ensure maximum delivery of projects, seemingly castigating elected leaders that were already grouping in different political factions, statements echoed by his deputy Wilson Nyaga.
“The governor was elected in office to serve all residents in Tharaka Nithi. He has made a commitment to deliver his pledges across the country, without favoring any tribe or community. Let elected leaders know there’s a system followed in lobbying for projects and not through derogatory statements in the media or in public functions” – Tharaka Nithi Deputy Governor Wison Nyaga.
Njuki identified establishment of County Health Volunteers (CHVs) and the Road Marshall’s program as part of key milestones in his administration in addition to the regulation of manufacturing, distribution, sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages within the county.
Over 1500 CHVs play a key role in primary healthcare implementation and in mobilizing communities towards preventive health care while 1000 road marshals were selected to support county road maintenance.
With political pundits placing him on the ballot in the 2027 polls, the governor announced that he was in the county to stay after his term was over.
“Since this is my last term in office as governor, some people are busy spreading rumors that I am going away after this. I want to tell them that I am here to stay, anyone tired of me can leave”, he said.
The governor joined elective politics in 2013, after winning the Chuka/Igambang’ombe parliamentary seat and has never lost an election since.
