After a two-year suspension due to Covid-19, thespians were officially back on the stage to represent their schools at the Chuka Sub- County drama festivals held at Ikawa High School from 10th to 11th March.
The two-day event brought together students, teachers and trainers to participate and compete in eight categories for a chance to represent the subcounty at county competitions.
In the Narrative, Ikuu Boys won first place, with Njuri High School and Magenka High School ranked first runners-up and second runners-up respectively.
James Maingi from Ikuu Boys was named Best Narrator, with the school also awarded the most original narrative.
In the Solo Verse, Ikuu High took first position, with Ndagoni High School and Kamuguongo Secondary School taking first and second runners-up respectively.
In the same category, Ikuu Boys also took home the most original verse, the most creative verse and the best English verse.
In the Choral Verse, Ikuu Boys took first place, with first and second runners-up going to Ndagoni Girls and Chuka Girls respectively.
In the category, Ikuu Boys won the most creative and best scripted Choral Verse awards with the best verse in English and the most creative going to Ndagoni Girls.
In the Play category, Mukuuni Boys won first place as Chuka Boys and County Girls settled for first and second runners-up.
In the Modern Dance, hosts Ikawa High School took first position, trouncing former winners Chuka Girls and Ikuu Boys who settled for second and third respectively.
Ikawa High School were named the most original dance, most creative and also won the best choreographed modern dance award.
In the Cultural Dance category, Ndagoni Girls outshined previous winners Ikuu Girls to take first position with Ikuu Girls settling for second.
Hope Wambui from Ndagoni Girls was named best female soloist, with the school clinching the most original, most creative and best choreographed dance awards.
In the Comedy Category, Ndagoni Girls carried the day with the best comedy, with Kiereni and Ikawa High School ranking second and third respectively.
In Spoken Word, Ikawa High took first position, defeating Njuri High who came second.
Ikawa were also awarded the most original and most creative spoken word of the festival.
Proceeding schools will represent the subcounty at the County Drama Festivals at Chuka Boys.
Ikuu really dominated the event. But I wonder how chuka girls lost in choral? During our time they were the best.
