Tharaka-Nithi County Governor Muthomi Njuki has assured residents that all services at the Chuka County Referral Hospital have resumed normal operations after a power surge on April 28, 2025, disrupted activities and damaged medical machines and equipment.
Speaking during a church service at Jennifer Njuki Memorial Church, the governor affirmed that all affected machines and equipment had been replaced. He also announced that the hospital had received a new power generator to guarantee uninterrupted services.
"Our Referral Hospital is back on track—there is no excuse for service disruptions. The machines have been replaced, and we are committed to maintaining our status as a Level 5 hospital with the purchase of a new generator to ensure uninterrupted operations," he said.
Although power was restored the same day, patients requiring powered medical support were affected, including the Outpatient Block.
Get Back to Work
During his speech, Governor Njuki issued a stern warning to county medical doctors and other staff who prioritize private clinics and hospitals over their duties in public healthcare facilities. He urged them to return to work or face consequences.
"Many doctors operate private clinics and hospitals, where they spend most of their time, yet they are the first to go on strike, demanding better pay from the government. We want the same energy put into strikes to be directed toward service delivery. Get back to work,"he warned.
The governor emphasized that the government had met most of the healthcare workers' demands, including promotions and salary increments, and called for service delivery that reflects these improvements. He added that he would make impromptu visits to health facilities across the county to curb the issue.
Governor Njuki also encouraged residents to register for SHA, assuring them that the medical scheme was functioning despite opposition.
