Chuka University Nursing Students Association (CUNSA) in collaboration with Kenya Student and Novice Nurses (KESNNUR) on Friday held the Regional Blood Drive, Medical Camp and Mentorship Program at Chuka University, offering free medical services to university students and residents from across the region.
Among the services offered by the students included Eye Screening, Cervical Cancer Screening, Outpatient Medical Services, Family Planning, HIV Testing, Blood Grouping/Cross Matching, Diabetes Screening and Blood Donation Drive.
Speaking during the event, School of Nursing and Public Health Dean Prof. Lucy Gitonga encouraged members of the public to take advantage of free medical camps to receive medical services, saying such camps are key in ensuring the health of a community.
“It is our duty, as a faculty to offer our services to the community. I would like to thank all our partners and stakeholders who partnered to make this event a success, ensuring we contribute to improving the health status of the community. Health is wealth” – Prof. Lucy Gitonga, Dean School of Nursing and Public Health.
Other partners included Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service, Chogoria Hospital, Chuka Nursing Home, Marie Stopes Kenya, Neema Opticians, Beyond Zero and NACADA.
According to the Chairperson Chuka University Students Association (CUNSA) Elphas Muricho, the medical camp is held annually by the students, as a way of giving back to the society.
