Tharaka Nithi County Security and Intelligence Committee on Tuesday held a multi-agency meeting at Chuka University to ensure the county remains peaceful during and after the August general elections.
Officials representing IEBC, National Government and County Government discussed early warning and early response systems ahead of the polls, where they appealed to all politicians and election candidates to conduct peaceful campaigns.
Tharaka Nithi County Elections Manager Mohamed Raka cautioned politicians from using the youth to disrupt opponent campaign rallies and meetings saying as a commission they would ensure the enforcement of the election code of conduct.
Mr Raka advised candidates to stick to the stipulated campaign time, emphasizing that the campaign period was between 7 Am to 6 Pm.

County Commissioner Norbert. J. Komora appealed to politicians to ensure they adhered to the elections code of conduct asking them to desist from holding rallies near schools, hospitals and other institutions to avoid disruption of normal programs.
Mr Komora advised against night announcements and playing of campaign material by vehicles fitted with public address systems, saying they were in violation of NEMA laws.

Representing the County Government, County Secretary William Micheni called on members of the public to embrace the re-introduced mandatory wearing of face masks in meetings especially campaign rallies as a containment measure to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country following the recent spike.
