The CS Interior and Coordination of National Government Fred Matiang’i on Thursday led National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) and elected leaders in the commissioning and handing over of the newly created Chiakariga Sub-County in Tharaka Nithi.
CS Matiang’i took to the occasion to announce the creation and gazettement of Muthambi Sub-County, bringing the total of sub-counties in the county to 6.
“We are starting a Sub-County here because we want to bring services and developments closer to the people. This initiative is not just a way of ensuring we deliver projects promised by President Uhuru but because our country is experiencing rapid population growth and services are needed” – CS Fred Matiang’i
Matiang’i called for unity, asking residents not to be divided through propaganda and incitement and went on to call for peace ahead of the polls in August.
Agriculture CS Peter Munya, who accompanied Matiang’i on his visit acknowledged that Chiakariga was supposed to receive a Sub-County a long time ago, but politics played to its disadvantage.
Munya asked political leaders to respect the president, in a statement perceived to be attacking DP Ruto and his camp who seemed to criticize the government in matters development.
“Give credit where it is due. As responsible citizens, it is important to be fair even when you are criticizing the government. You can’t insult the President in your meetings and expect to be respected in future” -CS Munya
Lands CAS Mburi Muiru defended his move not to vie for MP Tharaka, saying he had decided to work for President Uhuru Kenyatta and his government to safeguard his interests and that of the president, asking leaders affiliated to DP Ruto to join his camp.
Governor Muthomi Njuki, Senator Kithure Kindiki, MP Maara Kareke Mbiuki and MP Tharaka all took to the podium to appreciate the president for his efforts and projects in the county and asked for the completion of stalled projects.
The government through CS Matiang’i delivered financial support worth 5 Million to Tunyai Mixed Secondary School, for the construction of a modern laboratory.
Matiang’i also met SDA elders drawn from across the county at Kiiriria in Tunyai, where they discussed matters peace.
