Students from 40 Primary Schools in Chuka Igambang’ombe constituency are set to benefit from a feeding program during the 3-day KCPE examinations period.
The program, an initiative by Team Roho Safi under the patronage of parliamentary aspirant Muthomi 810 on Tuesday gave funds between Kshs 4000-24000 to each school, to assist in the provision of meals to students undertaking nationals examinations.
“As Team Roho Safi, we found the need to support KCPE candidates across the constituency by providing meals since a majority could not afford to cater for the same. Most of the schools that applied for this provision have children who come from less fortunate families that can’t afford to provide meals during this period” – Muthomi 810
According to Mrs Alvina Njue, the Headteacher of Magumoni Primary School, carrying of food to school has in years been a challenge for students during examination periods adding that trips home for meals affected student performance and concentration.
She added that parents had taken the initiative to contribute lunch money for candidates every year but stopped due to financial challenges, taking the intervention of teachers to chip in with their own finances to help the situation.
“I would like to thank Team Roho Safi for financing the feeding program for our candidates during the examination period. It eases the burden on parents and teachers who used to contribute extra funds for provision of meals”, she said.
Edward Kinyua, a parent who spoke during the disbursement of funds at Team Roho Safi offices in Kirubia-Chuka appreciated Muthomi 810 for his efforts in supporting education and noted that their children could now concentrate on examinations.
Achieving 100% transition to secondary school is one of the top priorities for Muthomi 810, with the award of bursaries to needy students also topping his list.
If elected, the businessman cum politician hopes to connect all schools to electricity.
