Leaders from both the national and county governments convened at Mbwiru Pry School in Mariani ward to eulogize and attend the funeral ceremony of Chief Leticia Kawira on Friday in an event hosted by the Presbyterian Church of East Africa, (PCEA).
Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki eulogized Chief Kawira as an epitome of hard work and dedication to ensure service delivery to her people and that she was an exemptional and efficient leader who once served within two sub counties.
Woman Representative Beatrice Nkatha noted that Chief Kawira was passionate about education in her location and asked residents to continue supporting education in her memory.
Chuka Igambang’ombe MP Patrick Munene added that Chief Kawira loved education and was spearheading the fight against illicit brew in the area, words that were echoed by Governor Njuki, Woman Representative Beatrice Nkatha and nominated MCA Anita Karimi Mbae.
County Commissioner Beverly Opwora led national government administrators in eulogizing Kawira as steadfast in her area of jurisdiction and that she was loved by her residents whom she served diligently.
Igambang’ombe Politics
New Igambang’ombe DCC Florence Obunga took to the podium for her first public address as an administrator in the area, with leaders present welcoming her and offering support to work together to ensure the operationalization of the new Igambang’ombe sub county.
“We appreciate we now have the name we were looking for. We are going to support you and work together to serve and bring developments that will benefit the people of Tharaka Nithi County”, Beatrice Nkatha.
Governor Njuki noted that the sub county came as a result of politics just before the general elections in 2017 after unsuccessful attempts in 2013.
MP Patrick Munene confirmed that plans to finalize the operationalization of the new sub county were taking shape, with Huduma Centre set to be opened within a month.
Illicit Brew
Governor Muthomi Njuki summed up his speech by proposing recognition of Area Managers, giving a good example of Community Health Volunteers who were fully recognized by the government and offered stipends, a move that has ensured the health sector is easily governed.
“Madam Leticia was passionate about ending illicit brew. It will be difficult to end this act in the country without the government changing its style of governing”, he said.
