NJOKA’S TRIP CAUSES A STIR, EXPLAINED.

With the return of Chuka University VC Prof. Erustus Njoka to the country from his visit to Turkey, politics have played with political camps affiliated to the VC and those of opposing candidates taking to social media to praise and criticize in equal measure “goodies” brought back to the country by Njoka. From posts that can be linked with Njoka’s political comrades and affiliates, on his last day of the tour, the VC hosted the Turkish Vice President where Njoka invited him to visit the country to officiate and fund a 10 billion Cancer Centre at Marimanti in the coming year. The VC is said to have visited the Turkish Minister for Education where he secured funds worth 14 billion for Chuka University, Maara and Tharaka institutions where he also signed exchange programs with Turkish based institutions that will see students from both sided undertake free sponsored attachment, take courses and as well as scholarships for animal health science students. “Experts” have taken to social media to argue the “lobbying” asking if an institution or an individual can sign 34 billion and 20 billion deals with foreign countries. In 2019, Kenya and South Korea signed an agreement that would see the Asian nation contribute Sh9.4 billion towards the establishment of the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) The Universities Act No 42 of 2012 states in section 45(1) that the funds of a public university shall comprise of (c) all monies from any other source provided for or donated or lent to the public university. The University is yet to produce a statement on the VC’s trip.
