Governor Muthomi Njuki and Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki on Sunday joined forces in what seemed as an attack towards aspiring MP Gitonga Kaburu (Bongo) slamming him for taking credit in the creation and gazettement of the new Muthambi Sub-County.
The two leaders who spoke at St. Michael Mumbuni Parish in Maara where they presided over the delivery of a vehicle to the parish, criticized Bongo and other leaders drawn from the area for their comments during a press conference held a day after the gazettement of the Sub-County, where they hammered Kareke Mbiuki and claimed responsibility for its creation.
“We are in a season of politics where everyone says what they want to say. Instead of protecting this newly created Sub-County, leaders are fighting for the credit of its creation. There’s no way someone can purport to have bypassed elected leaders to go and request for the Sub-County” -Governor Muthomi Njuki.
The Governor went on to defend Kareke, asking the people of Maara not to repeat the mistakes witnessed with the creation of Igambang’ombe as a Sub-County, hitting out at those criticizing the Maara MP where he advised them to wait for their turn to serve.
Kareke Mbiuki on his part insisted on his role in the creation of the Sub-County, making reference to a meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Tharaka Nithi leaders at Statehouse, with the Maara leaders’ agenda being the award of a Sub-County.
“The important thing is that we have our Sub-County. I will work with all other leaders including the Governor and the President to deliver services to our people” – Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki.
Mr Kareke and Mr Njuki are set to meet with Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, to set an unveiling date for the Deputy County Commisioner and the official opening ceremony for Muthambi Sub-County.
