Tharaka-Nithi Governor H.E Muthomi Njuki has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to allow Kenyans to rally behind their presidential candidate of choice.
While addressing residents on Tuesday at Igamatundu in Igambang’ombe ward during a seed distribution program, Njuki stated that Uhuru was trying to force a Raila presidency on the people and Tharaka Nithi unlike Meru County, was fully behind Deputy President William Ruto.
“Uhuru is trying to convince us to vote and support someone he was against in the last two elections. We are fully behind William Ruto and UDA. Meru is free to support Raila and no intimidation or threat will succeed in changing our decision” – Governor Muthomi Njuki
According to the governor, President Uhuru has neglected the county since the last election in 2017 and has not stepped foot in Tharaka Nithi after joining forces with Raila.
In his speech Njuki went on to state that Raila was to blame for tough economic times witnessed in the country, saying the handshake between Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta has had a negative impact on small and micro enterprises.
Governor Njuki drummed up support for UDA’s bottom-up economic model, stating that the issuance of certified seeds assured farmers high yields and would cushion farmers affected by the economy and challenging weather patterns.
“The government has used money, some which has been borrowed via loans to invest in roads and infrastructure. This is money that could have been used to support small scale enterprises in the country. Roads and infrastructure have no use if people are hungry” – Governor Muthomi Njuki
