Former Nithi Member of Parliament Petkay Shen Miriti on Friday officially launched his election campaign in Chuka Town as he seeks re-election into parliament 15 years after his exit from the National Assembly.
Mr Miriti who seeks to vie for MP in Chuka-Igambang’ombe on a Jubilee ticket will have to battle it out with Mercy Kirito at the party preliminaries scheduled to take place later this month, and the former legislator is confident he will secure the party ticket ahead of the August general elections.
Speaking at Chuka Grounds where he held the launching rally, Mr Miriti outlined his decision to vie for MP under Jubilee Party, saying he was a key stakeholder in the party after his party United Patriotic Party of Kenya (UPK) merged with other parties to form Jubilee in 2017.
The former Assistant Minister for Trade acknowledged his decision to vie for MP was informed by demands and requests made to him by the people of Chuka-Igambang’ombe which he had to fulfill.
The two-time gubernatorial aspirant noted that minimal developments had been achieved in the constituency since his exit, despite the current office holders receiving double the budget compared to his term in office back in 2002-2007.
“Since my exit as MP for the larger Nithi, leadership in this constituency has not been going okay. Minimal development has been achieved so far despite the lumpsum allocation from the National Government in terms of CDF. The current office holders have failed to utilize the funds, which are double my allocation back in 2022-2007 even with the split of the larger Nithi to create Chuka-Igambang’ombe constituency” – Petkay Miriti
Projects to his name as MP include the introduction and construction of Day Secondary Schools, Roads, Bridges, Rural Electrification Programs, Chuka Police Station upgrade, Award of Bursaries and the Construction of Dispensaries in the constituency.
