Former Chuka University VC Professor Erastus Njoka on Tuesday officially handed over university instruments of authority to Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Dorcas K Isutsa.
In an event held at the main campus that doubled up as a farewell ceremony for Professor Njoka, those who spoke celebrated the former VC as a renowned academician, innovative thinker and a development mobilizer willing to serve the community.
Speaking during the event, Professor Njoka reassured the staff and students that he was leaving the university in good hands under the leadership of Professor Isutsa and thanked the University Council, the Commission of University Education and the Ministry of Education for their support during his helm.
“I am grateful to God, the council and the community (who gave land to build this great university) for their contributions towards the success of this institution. Let us not fear what will happen after my exit because the university is in good and able hands” – Professor Njoka.
Njoka on his exit asked the council to ensure they complete projects he had started, establish a pension scheme for the university employees and ensure the establishment of Tharaka University and Chogoria University College.
Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Dorcas Isutsa lauded Njoka for building functional systems and solid foundations for the university and its campuses and acknowledged she would sustain the tempo to make the institution better.
“As I take over as VC, my priorities will be based along project completion, resource mobilization and research visibility enhancement to build on a firm foundation Njoka has laid” – Professor Isutsa.
Dr Julius Rotich on behalf of the University Council thanked Professor Njoka for the tremendous work done for the university through his visionary leadership and commitment to make the university better adding that he was fit to run for elective positions in the country.
Professor Njoka is seeking to contest in the Tharaka Nithi gubernatorial race, to oust first time governor Muthomi Njuki.
