The Service Party (TSP) leader Mwangi Kiunjuri has lashed out on politicians looking down on new and young parties saying no party is small and that leaders should respect everyone regardless of their numbers or popularity.
The former Laikipia legislator spoke in Tharaka-Nithi County, where he held a series of meetings at Ikuu PCEA, Kathwana and Mukothima.
At Kathwana, Kiunjuri led party leaders and members in the official opening of the party offices in the county, flanked by Marimanti MCA Susan Ngugi and MP hopeful Muthomi 810.
Kiunjuri while drumming up support for his party noted that it was time for the people not to elect leaders based on their parties, but to elect leaders for their manifesto, policies and programs he/she intended for the people.
“We will not elect someone for their party but by asking ourselves how much we know that individual. When we go to the elections, your track record, policies, manifesto and plans for the people will be used to elect you in.”, he said.
The former Cabinet Secretary criticized leaders affiliating themselves with preferred presidential hopefuls, going on to mention it was a scheme used by leaders who had no projects to their names.
Kiunjuri identified water shortage as a major problem in the county, pointing out that Tharaka-Nithi was a stronghold in matters voting, yet its massive voting numbers did not match projects in the area.
“Elections are never complete without Tharaka-Nithi votes yet there are no development projects in the area. You vote in leaders but they soon forget about you once elections are done. Tharaka-Nithi lags behind yet you have leaders who don’t lobby for projects”, he added.
