Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner Norbert Jara Komora has called on residents to elect in a Governor who can develop and transform the county in the coming general elections.
Speaking at Kathwana on Wednesday during the Madaraka Day Celebrations, CC Komora noted that the county was lagging behind, giving reference to Kathwana Stadium saying it lacked county headquarters status and that it needed a facelift.
Incumbent Governor Muthomi Njuki, who has been listed by EACC among 241 aspirants with outstanding integrity issues snubbed the event that had Jubilee gubernatorial aspirant Professor Erastus Njoka and CCK gubernatorial aspirant Gitari Mbiuki in attendance.
“Let us elect leaders who are willing to walk this journey with us…Looking at Kathwana Stadium, we have not taken enough transformative steps as a county. We want a modern and better stadium, one that portrays a better image of the county headquarters…Let us elect that person… This is not the way we are supposed to be” – Norbert Jara Komora, County Commissioner
A recent poll by Mizani Africa placed Jubilee's Professor Erastus Njoka ahead of UDA's Muthomi Njuki at 48.3 % with the incumbent recording 46.7%
CC Komora in his speech promised to make his office at Kathwana operational, saying he was ready to work and operate from the County Headquarters to give people the service they deserved.
Currently, the County Commissioner’s office is located at Chuka, and has been subject to debate with a section of residents and leaders feeling that the construction and occupation of the offices at Kathwana ought to have taken place sooner.
“I don’t want to stay at Chuka, I want to stay here (Kathwana) and serve the people from here because this is the county headquarters” - Norbert Jara Komora, County Commissioner
Reacting to speculations of President Uhuru’s visit to Tharaka Nithi, CC Komora announced that the President was expected to visit the county this month(June), with Chogoria Water and Sewerage Company and the Chuka Water and Sewerage Company being among projects he is expected to officially open.
According to CC Komora, the President is also expected to drum up support for his preferred candidates in the county ahead of the August polls.
