UDA National Elections Board led by Chairman Eng. Anthony Mwaura on Wednesday held a consultative meeting with aspirants from Tharaka Nithi County at EAPC church hall in Chuka where they addressed issues on party nominations and registration.
Mr Mwaura acknowledged they would make sure they satisfy aspirant interests as a board, noting that the party had no preferred candidates in the coming nominations and whoever will be chosen will be the party flag bearer in the August polls.
“We shall follow all the formalities and procedures of party nominations. We have agreed to make the party strong by conducting free and fair elections. I can assure party members that no certificate will be awarded illegally” – Anthony Mwaura, Elections Board Chairman.
With the nominations scheduled to take place between 9th-16th of April, the aspirants asked the National Elections Board to conduct free and fair nominations, without the influence of incumbents who are considered powerful and capable of manipulating nomination results.
” We have full confidence in UDA but the party will lose, more so the Deputy President and Party Leader William Ruto if the nominations will be conducted in an unfair manner” – Jonah Gaicima, MCA Aspirant.
“I am glad to know that the party coordinators will not be part of party elections since some coordinators are agents of certain aspirants. I would like to thank UDA for promising a fair nomination election process” – Dr. Beatrice Kathomi, Woman Representative Aspirant.
Senatorial aspirant Mwenda Gataya and MCA aspirant Joseph Njeru Ing’ara both asked aspirants to focus on campaigns saying they had confidence in the party and called on those who would lose at party nominations to work with winners to ensure UDA wins a majority of seats in the general elections.
UDA is set to hold a National Delegates Conference on 15th March with the extension of payments, registration and verification extended to 5th March.
