A section of leaders and residents across Tharaka Nithi County have shown their dissatisfaction and frustration towards the announcement made by Deputy President William Ruto at Kathwana to have Senator Kithure Kindiki join national politics and withdraw his gubernatorial aspirations.
Ruto who spoke at Kathwana, when he led the Kenya Kwanza brigade across Mt Kenya region where he held a series of rallies, asked the residents to allow Kindiki participate in politics at national level, and opt out of the gubernatorial race.
"Senator Kithure Kindiki, is experienced and capable of working with me at national level, to ensure we form the next government. We need patriots, those that will unite with other leaders to make a national government." - DP Ruto
Leaders and residents drawn from the county termed the move by Kindiki as betrayal, saying they were hopeful that Kindiki would be the next governor, actualising the rotational leadership proposal that was supposed to see a governor from the Tharaka people, joining Maara and Chuka communities that have had a share of the position.
" No one has the interest of the Tharaka people at heart. Kindiki has been lied to. The decision to have him join national politics will leave us neglected" - Jonah Gaicima
Kindiki supporters have now declared to support Dr Mzalendo Kibunjia, sighting their fear in misrepresentation after the general elections if the other positions were to be shared among the other communities.
The gubernatorial battle now remains a two horse race, with sitting Governor Muthomi Njuki and former Chuka Universty VC Professor Erastus Njoka being the two most preferred candidates for the position.
